Might as well start a thread for some of the smaller moves.
Oilers trade for Potulny
The Philadelphia Flyers acquired 5'11", 200-pound defenseman Danny Syvret from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for forward Ryan Potulny, according to Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren. The Philadelphia Flyers acquired 5'11", 200-pound defenseman Danny Syvret from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for forward Ryan Potulny, according to Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren.
"Danny is a puck-moving defenseman that sees the ice well and will improve our depth," said Holmgren in making the announcement. "He had some success playing with Jeff Carter and Mike Richards at the 2005 World Junior Championship as a member of the Team Canada.
"Ryan was a good player for our organization, but this was a deal based on a need, as we added depth to our defense."
Syvret, 22, recorded two goals and 18 assists for 20 points and 43 penalty minutes in 63 regular season games for the Springfield Falcons and Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League this past season.
Nice move by Edmonton ... I like Potulny a lot.

I do too. But, could be a good move by Holmgren too, getting a guy who's familiar with 2 guys who should be with the flyers for quite a while. (Carter & Richards)

Looks like Ladd is resigning with Chicago.
Though the Hawks have announced the signing of only James Wisniewski, Dustin Byfuglien and Adam Burish among their restricted free agents, general manager Dale Tallon says there have been other signings with only Rene Bourque unsigned. “And that won’t be a problem,” said Tallon.
On the Hawks board they quoted some website as saying it was a 2-yr deal, 3.1M.

Good for Ladd- I didn't expect him not to re-sign, since he has no rights as a restricted coming out of ELC status, he doesn't even have arbitration.
Ladd's going to have a good year. Those last games with the Hawks after the shock of the trade wearing off, he seemed really at home with all those young talented guys. The 'Hawks are so on the rise. It's going to be really exciting for their fans these next few years.

We've had some activity in advance of the draft tonight- Looks like Jamal Mayers got traded from STL and the Preds have shipped Chris Mason off to STL - This afternoon could get real busy......
The Toronto Maple Leafs added some toughness Thursday, acquiring right wing Jamal Mayers (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/bio/?id=655) from the St. Louis Blues for a third-round pick in this weekend's draft.
Mayers, a Toronto native, skated in 80 games for St. Louis this past season, collecting 12 goals and 27 points along with 91 penalty minutes.
The 6'1, 214 pound winger has played in 595 career NHL games, all with St. Louis, and has recorded 71 goals, 87 assists and 158 points, along with 756 penalty minutes.
The Blues originally selected Mayers in the fourth round, 89th overall in the 1993 NHL Draft. He most recently played on Canada's silver-medal team at the 2008 IIHF World hockey championship.
"I want to thank Jamal for everything he has done for the Blues and the city of St. Louis," said Blues president John Davidson in a statement. "We wish Jamal and his family nothing but the best in his hometown of Toronto."
St. Louis Blues have acquired goaltender Chris Mason (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/bio/?id=1021) from the Nashville Predators in exchange for a 4th round draft choice, 111th overall, in the 2008 Entry Draft.
"Acquiring Chris really solidifies our goaltending position which was one of our goals going into this weekend," said Blue general manager John Davidson. "We are looking forward to a big day today at the draft."
Mason, 32, played in a career high 51 games for the Predators last season, collecting a 2.90 goals against average and a .898 save percentage.
He posted a career high 24 wins for Nashville during the 2006-07 season leading them to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Red Deer, Alberta native has skated in 135 career NHL games, recording a 58-43-12 record along with a 2.61 goals against average and a .913 save percentage.

Wasn't Mason supposed to be big time in Nashville? Who's doing the tending now, since Mason is gone?
