Anaheim Ducks general manager Brian Burke has added Olympic responsibilities to his portfolio.
USA Hockey announced on Friday that Burke has been named general manager of the U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team that will compete in the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, B.C.
"I'm very grateful and honoured to be part of the U.S. Olympic Team," Burke said Friday in a statement. "We hope to put a team together for 2010 that Americans can be proud of."
Nashville Predators president of hockey operations and general manager David Poile will serve as associate general manager.
"We could not be more pleased than to have Brian as our general manager," USA Hockey president Ron DeGregorio said in a statement. "His record of accomplishment speaks for itself. Brian's drive and fire for the game rub off on you and it's that type of passion that will help lead us to our ultimate goal of winning the gold medal."
The United States last won a gold medal in hockey in 1980 in Lake Placid. Their best recent result was a silver medal in Salt Lake City in 2002, where they fell 5-3 to Team Canada.
I'm gonna assume this means Ron Wilson will be coach given their past history.
