:nanner: Ahh, the tension of two years ago...game 7...the knotted stomach...the unproductive day at work...the fantastic evening
What a wonderful flashback :spin:

It's been TWO years! you know when DET won it a couple weeks ago and I was watching the on ice stuff before the Cup came out, I said to hub- I can see the whole day and night of 6/19/06 in my head as clear as day, but why does it seem like it happened sooooo long ago?
We could easily spend the whole day reminiscing about June 19, 2006.
This time 2 years ago, I was attempting to get out of the house to get to my office, which I was normally in by 7:30 every morning- the plan being work a half day then meet the crew for tailgating; well I couldn't quite get out the door & in my office til oh, about 9:30, because I kept throwing up from nerves.
When does training camp start again? ;)

"Unproductive" may be the biggest understatement ever. lol. I was absolutely worthless. We barely made it through half the day too.
2 years, jeeesh.

I was worthless too. The entire building was in my office talking about the game and what an amazing opportunity it was to see my favorite team play a Game 7 and hopefully win it for such an historic prize. I cried, I laughed, I wanted to puke...and felt that way until the confetti fell.
I will never forget how I felt when Justin scored the empty-netter, when the confetti started to fall as I watched "our" guys jumping for joy and the sound of "We Are The Champions" as OUR CUP was carried out to Brindy and Wes' waiting arms.
The sight of the entire arena standing throughout the game is something I will always remember as well.
*sigh*

I don't even remember if I was productive or not, lol. IIRC, there were only 2 of us at my old company that had tickets for the game (or at least that I knew of) so we kind of held court about it.
I do remember Mr ncc being petulant about them losing games 5 and 6 and acting like he wasn't sure he'd go because they might lose. What a boob.
I know I was more calm than at other points in the playoffs, because I knew I was getting to attend something so special no matter the outcome.
I want to officially thank the Canes for winning, but for not putting us thru a come from behind win. That made it more fun.
When I think about watching the game, obviously there are lots of vignettes that stick with me, but one thing I often think about was when the Oil had the 5-3 in the 2nd period. I was FREAKING out at the idea of them scoring and with Cam directly in front of my sight line, I just decided to watch him instead of the puck. The Oilers got a penalty a minute later, but I remember seeing how poised and aggressive Cam was being. Watching him only (and ignoring the puck play) made me calmer actually.
And as a side note, it STILL burns me that 2 years later they talk about that damn 5 on 3 in Game 7 of the BUF series when they shot the puck over the glass and we scored. MEANWHILE, in Game 7 of the SCF the EXACT same thing happend to us and we killed it off until we drew an Oil penalty. Does that EVER get mentioned. Not that I'm bitter or anything.

I had this one archived to my ipod, but that doesn't do much good for linking. Luckily I found it still up on youtube. Best Flavor of the Game ever.

Thanks for posting that. I used to have all the ch.com videos on my laptop, but it was from my old job and I never downloaded them at home. Now they aren't in a downloadable format.
So who is that geeky looking dude next to Cuba anyway? The one that's trying to slyly trying to take a photo of them on the jumbotron?

E you crack me up...
On the lines of the come-from-behind victory, I am glad that they didn't put us through that but just think (and I know I am completely sick ) how awesome it would have been if we had won the Cup the same way we beat NJ is Game 2?? Of course we would have all been in the Cardiac Care Unit or dead but what an awesome finish that would have been... for health's sake, it was for the best.
At the STH party, with tears in my eyes and goosebumps, I told Wes and Brindy that I would never forget how I felt that night and how it ranked up there with one of my best memories ever. They both replied "me too". :D
Guy.. that YouTube made me cry.

Thank goodness for archivers. LOVE.THAT.CLIP.
Stanley's Angels, the shaky camera when Willy scored the goal and all the people jumping up and down. Seeing Rod fix his helmet and kinda crouch down and grip his knees before joining the scrum/celebration- really said something- you could see he didn't quite believe it- until the Recchin Ball came up and hugged him --- It'll be 30 years from now and we'll all be digging up these vids
Can you feel your ears ringing all over again?

I loved all that SoCal... Seeing Rod bent over and trying to grasp what is really happening is overwhelming to me and the emotion came over me like a wave. Stanley's Angels made me chuckle and helped me get a grip.. thank goodness. I have seen events on tv many times where the cameras shook from the force of the building, but that is the first time I have been a part of it. :nanner::yippee: Precious memories.
CL, I have on red today too! :spin:

I have to work at the arena today for a soccer tournament opening ceremony. I'm going to go in there and close my eyes and pretend it is 2 years ago. Feel the chill of the ice, the confetti dropping. Envision the tears of joy and the roar of the crowd...Too bad it's soccer and kids...
That was the best day ever! One of the most memorable things to me was when Justin Williams got the puck and was heading to the empty net and you could just feel the building start to rumble and the place got louder and louder the closer he got to the net and then it was so loud my ears started ringing. It still gives me chills just thinking about it.
There have been times when I was in the RBC after that and I just look over at where we sat for the playoffs game and imagine the view all over again.

Of all the moments from being there, that is the one that stands out the most to me. Hearing it again on TV does not do it justice to just how loud it was when he got the puck.

That was a day that I will never ever forget. I still have those images in my head to which I carry with me to my grave. I remember everything from the moment I woke up to the moment I finally came home overjoyed and to excited to sleep even though it was 2am on June 20th. Waking up on that June 19th day, lying in bed thinking, this is it, its all over tonight. Being nervous all day long, getting a text from my brother on the way to the arena saying "we're gonna win, i can feel it" and thinking man i hope he's right. Seeing the boys come out with a vengenance on that first puck drop. Seeing Aaron Ward score early in the 1st then the noise that erupted afterwards. Seeing 18,000 + fans standing the entire time. Thinking if that goal they took away from us cost us the cup, I was gonna be livid. Then seeing #11 move those legs so fast toward the empty net and eventually sealing the deal and the relief you felt afterwards knowing that cup's new home would be in Carolina for the next year was just all unreal.
I could go on and on, but I'll stop :)
EDIT: reading all these and remembering is making me tear up. I know i'm a sucker.

I still have Hyena's picture of the team around the Cup as my wallpaper.
Here is the Goals of the Game with the call by Chuck Kaiton. I saved it, the Flavor of the Game and the long and short version of the radio broadcast on my computer. When I get a new one in a month or so I have to remember to move them.

Hurricanes steal! Staal gets it up the middle to Williams he's walking in on an open net and he won the Stanley Cup!

Funny you mentioned them Caniac. I pulled into a parking lot last night and an SUV had a Sabres license plate and my blood started to boil. After a few seconds, I started to laugh...I was thinking take it easy Mona.. it is June.
