How's the movie Mystery, Alaska?

I'm just wondering what I should expect before watching this movie. I just bought the dvd tonight after hearing people talk about it earlier today over at ch.com in a conversation regarding the New York Rangers. Unfortunately one poster gave away the ending over there but that usually doesn't affect a movie all that much for me so I'm not expecting it too hurt this movie for me either. I'm just wondering what you guys think of it here? Good, fun movie? Somewhat like Rocky?

I'll post my thoughts on it after I watch it later tonight!

I found it funny,a little irreverant and entertaining..liked it very much.

I loved it--largely cos of Tree (who reminds me a LOT of somebody who is no longer here *weeps*), but also because it was just amusing as hell in a lot of places.

Oh yeah, and the Langdon-Domi fight they showed. ;)

I am still freaked out at the Mystery Alaska theme I have going on today. First it was mentioned at ch.com, then someone randomly brought it up while I was out for beers with some folks after a pickup hockey game, and now I come here and read about it again... :eek2:

I loved it. It is currently my favorite hockey movie. It is a good story, lots of fun, and a little quirky. You'll enjoy it, I hope!

I definitely enjoyed the movie! I thought it was a good fun movie with several very funny bits. I loved the way they filmed the hockey game at the end as well. Definitely not a film to be shown to young children though. I think I assumed this movie was rated pg and was surprised and found it hilarious the moment the cussing started. (The scene with the man who was shot in the foot yelling)

I recommend this movie if you love hockey. I'm assuming that all that frequent this board do so I recommend it to all of you.

The DVD is very good as well, I was very pleased with it's picture quality. I expected a mediocre digital transfer and the film was not very big was pleasantly surprised.

Could you elaborate on this one? My kids would be considered young, but they don't have virgin ears or anything ;) . I'd be more concerned about sex/nudity stuff, but I doubt there's much of that in a PG movie.

I'm sorry, I left out the part about looking at the box right after the cussing started and seeing that it is in fact rated R. There is no full nudity in the movie though there are 2 sex scenes. One of them's got a bit with a condom and a joke very similar to one in American Pie (premature) and there's a line where the girl in that scene complains to her mother that her boyfriend does not want to have sex with her.

Lol, sorry about that. I think the movie does earn it's R rating with the sex bits but the cussing is generally part of the punch line of a joke though it is used a lot.

Perhaps you could watch it and then judge whether you think your kids should see it. They most likely would not understand the sex bits but would probably ask you several questions about it. :)

better late than never, we just watched this movie for the first time and thought it was great! ahhhh, playing hockey for love of the game.. how refreshing! ;)

Not bad for a low-budget hockey movie. I had thought it was older...it was a surprise to see Russel Crowe and Hank Azaria in the movie, but they both did very well. I was pleasantly surprised at the end...a very good movie!
