OK, I may be jumping the gun here, but......
the home opener is on a Saturday and we'll be there early grilling out and drinkin ;) About 9 of you are planning to come by for the Detroit game tape... so I just figured I'd invite anyone else from the board to come and tailgate with us!

Here's where we park:
http://home.bellsouth.net/coDataImages/p/Groups/55/55766/folders/66861/426831parkingmapcopy.gif

More details to follow if anyone is actually interested ;) If everyone brings a lil food, we'll have a lot of food!

we'll be there in a mere 9 weeks, 4 days 6 hours, 32 minutes, and 10 seconds.. but who's counting? ;)

I'm sure they'll have the traditional "party on the lawn", so I bet they open things up pretty early (maybe not pajama early though ;)).

I've still got to negotiate soccer tournament duty with Mr. nccanes, but I think I've got that taken care of!

Yeah, they got me going good with the first practice of prospect camp.....and now I realize the opener is still two months away. AARRGGGHHH!!!! How ever will I survive.

Anyway, you think they would let us pitch tents out there in the lot/on the lawn? That would be awesome.

Wonder if you can go watch them make the ice! That would be cool! OK. Just realized I'm acting excited about watching water freeze. What has this sport done to me?

and yeah, I think time will slow down between now and then.. I am ready NOW! As far as food, anything is fine.. homemade/store bought doesn't matter..

I think we need to make it into a festival.. get in on Friday and set up camp.. and then stay on Saturday night as well... we may have to invest in a hotel room that night!

To veer off-topic for a second, here is a very easy recipe anyone can make Pat:

BAKED STUFFED CHICKEN

When I found this recipe, I thought it was perfect for people, like me, who
just are not sure how to tell when poultry is thoroughly cooked, but not
dried out. Give this a try.

Â* Â* Â*Â* BAKED STUFFED CHICKEN
Â* Â* Â* Â* Â* Â*Â* 6-7 lb. chicken
Â* Â* Â* Â* Â* Â*Â* 1 cup melted butter
Â* Â* Â* Â* Â* Â*Â* 1 cup stuffing (Pepperidge Farm is good.)
Â* Â* Â* Â* Â* Â*Â* 1 cup uncooked popcorn (ORVILLE REDENBACHERS LOW FAT)
Â* Â* Â* Â* Â* Â*Â* Salt/pepper to taste
Â* Â* Â* Â* Â* Â*Â* ______________________________

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brush chicken well with melted
butter, salt, and pepper. Fill cavity with stuffing and popcorn.

Place in baking pan with the neck end toward the back of the
oven.

Listen for the popping sounds.

When the chicken's ass blows the oven door open and the chicken
flies across the room, it is done.

And you thought you couldn't cook! ;)

I couldn't get that far. My oven (I think it's an oven) does not have a preheat button on it. It just has noobs with numbers on it. And what's the deal with Bake and Broil? The drive thru at McDonalds is no where near as complicated.

We'd love to meet everyone ! If we come early enough we won't come empty handed...but the thought of seeing some faces to go along with the id's...now that would be neat.

And once again, the players on there way in making comments about their loyal fans...remember the one that was posted in the N&O from Ron as he drove up with Sean Hill..."look at those poor *******s, you've GOT to love them" - I think it was a day of sweltering heat and there were numerous bodies starting the game festivities rather early. I had to laugh as I read it. I know that Ron did not mean that in any way negative. I think they get a kick out of us as much as we enjoy them.

Yes, a big crowd on home game opening. Now that sounds mighty fine...

It's going to be a looooooong day for us -- we're going to tailgate for the State - UConn game, then tailgate for the hockey game, then go home and sleep it all off.

State game is at 12pm, so it will be at least 3:30 before that game is over and at least 4:30 - 5pm before the crowd is more or less gone. State puts 53,800 inside the gates every home game, and they have sold out the entire slate of home games. That a little more than three sold out RBC's worth of people.

Bummer!!! I think maybe I will come in early decoyed as a State fan..

Michelle,

I am glad to hear that you guys are planning a tailgate, I wish I could come out and join you. The only problem is that the NC State game will affect the time that you can enter the lot. Their game is at 1pm and NC State has said that we can enter the lot at 4:30. I know that the fairgrounds parking lot is free for both NC State football and Hurricanes hockey so you can enter that at anytime. The only problem then becomes finding a spot amongst the throngs of NC State fans. Believe me, we all wish this was not the case. If you have any further questions, please feel free to call me.

Thanks,

[quote]"our arena"quote]

There will be 53,800 people at that State football game.

Most of them are Wolfpack Club members. A majority of them will have paid for part of the RBC construction cost in one form or another, and in fact, NCSU is an equity owner in the arena itself. It is built upon NCSU land, although it is deeded now to the arena management.

If the WPC had not provided money to build the ESA, there would have been no arena and the Hurricanes would either still be in Hartford or more likely, another city.

To say that the RBC is exclusively the Hurricanes arena would be quite wrong.

IMHO the NHL and the Hurricanes should have scheduled this game for Friday or Sunday, and doing it on Saturday (<edit> after a home NCSU football game) was in a word, stupid.

Idea that was discussed Saturday before the Caps game:

Since the parking lot people are saying that the parking for the Canes game Saturday will not open up until 4:30 (per previous posts), we were throwing around the idea to start tailgating for the Canes game while to parking lot is still open for the football game. The game starts at 1pm according to the schedule on the NCSU website.

I will be bringing a full size charcoal grill (as oppose to a small, portable one) with plenty of extra charcoal if anyone wants to bring stuff to grill. Kat has requested brats, and we will also have marinated shrimp and salmon kabobs (thanks Shell for offering to bring skewers). I'll also have brownies. :D

I believe most (all?) parking surrounding the RBC and Carter Finley are for Wolfpack club members. You might be able to tailgate, but it'll be somewhere down Trinity road or something, I don't think you'll be able to get anywhere near the stadium/RBC. Someone else know for sure?

We park in the West lots too, but those spots do go fast Shell! Does the lot open for hockey parking at 4:30? We are going to try and get there about that time. I think we'll have 2 vehicles, a red pickup and either a maroon SVU (can't remember what they drive!) or a green Escape.

I am so excited about it already! I have a 2 day meeting in Greenville Wed and Thurs and I've already told them I MUST be home in front of my TV no later than 7:00 on Thursday! They are aware of and tolerant of my addiction ;)

I'm really at a loss as to how to handle tailgating on Saturday because of the State game.

I've been going back and forth on asking our rep... but I think I'll do that.
We'd like to get there before the football game (if only option is before... or 4:30.. I'll take early please). But I don't know if they'll let us into the west lot then or not. I'll try to find out.

They won't let you in the west lot guyute...we went to the State/Carolina football game and the only people permitted in the arena lot anywhere had to have a parking pass..we lucked up and parked at Cardinal Gibbons across the street..that is an idea!...but they charge $5...fundraiser for the school...

Doug and I have quickly developed a pretty good relationship. very good guy, and will bend over backwards to help.
(Note- I also asked about the Brindy comment Chuck made... and Doug said he's been asking around, and the only injury mention has been of Boughner... so he's hoping it's very minor, and everyone is just very cautious after last season.)

Saturday does not look too good at this point. NC State has their game at 1pm and they use our parking lot for their full season ticket holders as well. We have to wait until they clear out before our great fans can enter. This means that the parking situation is fairly dependent on the conclusion of the NC State football game. My best bet is that the first time that you will be allowed in the lot is around 5pm. I know this is not optimal for tailgating but this is something that is completely out of our hands. My apologies.

Doug

This is BLEEPING Ridiculous. I can't even explain how pissed I am that they're having a home opener on a Saturday, and we can't get there until only 2hrs before game time. ARRRRRGH.

I guess shell's suggestion will have to be the way to go.
We'll go at like 12:30 or something... and call someone... and whoever wants to can try and park near us. /shrug.

The State Game is at 1pm, so you will be 50,000 people worth of cars away from the Arena at 12:30 I'm afraid.

Cardinal Gibbons is right across the street, if you can really get in there, that's not a bad deal. I just wonder how early that will fill up for the football game.

Here's the thing (I think).

The Canes already gave up the other 2 Saturday nights in October because of the fair. I guess they could have asked the NHL to change this one too, but they know that Sat. nights are key - gate-wise. I guess they also know that while it's inconvenient, that it won't prevent people from going to the opening game and thus not affect the $$ issue.

It's part of the "deal" when the Canes partnered with State and the Centennial Campus. They knew it going in.

Here is another idea. You can park in the Trinity Road free lot. You will probably have to get there early, You should be able to find a few spaces before or during the football game.

I bet a lot of students will be skipping this game since we are 3-3 and only playing UCONN, and that is where most of the stdents park. I do know that some people mark spots of Friday night, with ropes and things.

Wouldn't that be a cool mix of NC State and Hurricanes fans, much of which are all in the same, tailgating together. :spin:

I'd have to imagine that they'd kick everyone out of the rbc lots after the pre-game skate.

We haven't come to a conclusion yet. we'll probably try and go around noon or so.... but it also depends on the weather... which is looking like rain most of the day.

I don't want to sit in our car with the windows up for 6hrs...

You can bet on it. I have experience with a lot at ASU that is used by the Yosef Club members for football games. It's a huge lot used for the dorms during the week. You have to clear your car our by 10 AM on game days if you don't have that Club parking sticker. At 10:30 AM they start towing cars. I'm sure State does the exact same thing. My bet is there is no way in hell you will be able to "sneak" into that lot until the game is over.

The spaces that you park in are numbered because they belong to Wolfpack Club members...and I can guarantee you they will tow you away if you are in their space when they get there...unless of course the WC member does not make the game.....pretty chancey.. Can anyone tell me if the Comfort Suites across the street from the arena is nice or not. Me and Jillsmom are staying there Saturday night so we do not have to drive back to Durham and Grandmama's house. This way we will be able to tailgate to the fullest. Also, if anyone is interested we might have a few people over to the room before the parking lots open if we get there early enough. PM me if this sounds like a possibility. Thanks guys and gals. I think the Nov. 2 game sounds like a good idea. Hopefully the weather will be better.

At least this year we don't have to try to get to a game through fair traffic which is so much worse than sharing the parking lot with football game traffic IMO. Hopefully, UConn won't put up much of a battle and it'll be over as early as possible with a State win!

I am ready for this home game to get started :spin:

Indeed! Sorry I missed you Puckin.. but great seeing the rest of you! Echoing the good company, good food, and lots of beer.. at least we can have fun before the games, if we're not having any inside.
