Per Luke

More crossing Ts and dotting Is:

Ryan Bayda, Wade Brookbank and Tim Conboy have all re-signed, Bayda and Brookbank for one year each and Conboy for two.

Bayda and Brookbank will each make $475,000 next season. Conboy has a two-way deal next season ($475,000 and $100,000 in the AHL) and a one-way deal in 2009-10 at $500,000.

Interesting that Conboy got a one way next season.

Good, they earned it

Bayda, but no Aucoin? :(

he's probably still trying to find a one way deal (and rightfully so if you ask me)

If he can't find one though I hope he comes back here on a 2-way contract

not thrilled with the one-way for Conboy next year ...

I think it's a reward Cory- I'm guessing Conboy will be the healthy extra as needed......

I know, I know ... I'm just a grump. I see little "bonuses" like that being the thing that bites us down the road.

Don't get me wrong, tho ... love Conboy .. total lunatic.

Interesting:

“Ryan, Wade and Tim were important players for the Hurricanes in the second half of last season,” said Francis. “At this point in their careers, they have each earned NHL contracts and a spot on the Hurricanes’ roster.”

So if Bayda and Brookbank are on one way contracts, what does this mean for Rosie?

I cannot loose 2 out of 3 of my favorite players in one day.

worth noting that just b/c they have one-way deals doesn't mean we can't send 'em down ... just have to go thru waivers.

And we pay NHL money for AHL work.

I do wonder where this leaves LaRose. What's the running total of 1 way contracts at this point?

well, i guess re-signing Brookbank completely shuts the door on a miracle signing of Hordichuk, that's a shame.

I am a little suprised to see the 1 way contract for Bayda too, unless he's going to be a regular scratch or something, I'd assume they have Brookbank on the 4th line, then Rosey and Sutter? I'm just a bit confused

Where I think it leaves Rosie is JR sending a message that he better accept his QO soon or Ryan Bayda is sitting there at $75K less per season itching to play 4th line minutes.

Yup, probably the end for Hordichuk, though that was probably clear as soon as he stopped (never started?) listening to JR's offers.

As for Rosie, the window is still there. Bayda would be the 13th forward (or Brookbank if they didn't think they needed his presence on a given night).

I know, but one-way doesn't mean "they're definitely in the press box if not on the ice." It's just guaranteed money the team has to pay ... and that hurts with the team's self-imposed salary ceiling.

The window is still there, but he better not screw around or the window will be slammed on his fingers. I think the 4th line wings will be staffed on a rotating basis depending on the opponent with Sutter centering 2 of Bayda, LaRose and Brookbank.

^well JR on the radio is saying that Rosie's camp's number and JR's number are a little apart. Said what his camp was asking for was "fair, but not what he'd be worth in our system"

....makes me pretty nervous

^ As much as I like Chad, I don't see the offers lining up for him either. JR is playing a bit of hardball here. I have full confidence he will be back.

I hope.

Good for a Fri Morning chuckle from Luke's blog (http://blogs.newsobserver.com/canes/river-rats-qa-with-conboy):

Tim Conboy is the subject of the latest offseason Q&A on the River Rats' Web site.

Among the highlights, his take on the atmosphere at the RBC Center:

Yeah, it’s unbelievable. Going out there, you throw the littlest body check--it doesn’t even have to be a big check, you can just be rubbing out a guy--and the place goes nuts. It’s a pretty intense atmosphere to be in and something I think every kid dreams of when they step on the ice for the first time.

and hahahaha, from the actual Q&A at the Rats site:

You made your debut with the Canes last year and it seemed like you became an instant fan favorite as well. Were you at all surprised at how quickly the fan base really seemed to take to you?

Yeah, it was crazy. I think the first fight I had against Scott Parker they were playing that old trucker song “You Got a Great Big Convoy”. (Laughs) I remember hearing that and thinking ‘Wow that was fast, I can’t believe they even knew that song was out already.’ It was definitely surprising to see that many people cheering for me every night, it was nice.

OMG he's hysterical!

The other part of your first stint with Carolina was playing as a forward. Do you think that really makes a difference in your appeal to the team because of your versatility of being able to play both forward and defense?

You know I was telling everybody I probably don’t even need to use a stick out there, so just stick me wherever and I’ll just try to run guys over.

OMFG. He is a RIOT.

We can't have two Timmays can we???

What's funny about this- or makes one pause and think- you know the guys often comment on how they don't 'really notice' or hear things or are so focused on the game-- I know they do - Conboy's comments just give us a litlte insight into the mind of a player "in game". Totally funny.

I was also thinking of that great pic someone posted (Hyena or LTD?) from the STHer party and how apple pie (with a faux hawk of course) Conboy looks. LOL.

I read that Q&A yesterday and died laughing when he mentioned the Convoy song. And the part about him not needing a stick he'll just run guys over, hilarious.

He looks like (your..everyone's) 14 year old brother. Brookbank too. :D I told Tim that with him and Wade side by side at the table, they wouldn't have to worry about any trouble from us. They both laughed at that comment. :)

and does he know that Convoy song is like 100 years old?

Mona, I thought the same thing about the comment on the "Convoy" song. Obviously he's wayyy too young to remember the mid seventies.

Yeah.... I kind of cocked my head-to-the-side on the "Convoy" song comment, too. You know you're getting old, when......

There hasn't been a re-mix of it, has there? Like-- w/Snoop Dog and some scratchin' goin' on in the background?!

or... Black-eyed Peas do "Songs of the Trucker,".... or something......

Isn't that the song that Commie was in the video to when he was in Calgary? So I guess it was re-done.

Found the youtube...look for Commie 17 seconds in.

I wondered if he meant that he was surprised they'd pull it out that quickly, he did refer to it as "that old Trucker song".

Actually, "Convoy" was re-made several years ago by Canadian Country singer Paul Brandt...remember, Mike Commodore is in the video. :D

ETA: Ah, LeslieK found it.

It was orginially performed by C.W. McCall in 1975. I remember liking it when I was a very small (4 years old) child.
