Does anyone here know anything about violins? I am looking to get a starter violin for an adult. I read alot of stuff on the internet about violins. I know what I am supposed to look for in quality violin but what about one that it just for beginners that will last awhile.

This is what I found

http://www.stringseason.com/cmw/purchaseviolin.html

is this reasonable? Any info would be appreciated.

That looks like a fairly reasonable price, especially if you're just starting out. My mom paid at least $400 for my full-size violin years ago. My private teacher didn't like it at first; it was brand new and sounded "green" (to my ears that meant "muted"). But the older it got the better it sounded.

Basically, a "good" violin is one that YOU are comfortable with. You can invest $1000 and up in a violin, but not until you've played long enough to know what a $1000 violin should sound like. Heck, I'm still using the same $400 violin my Mom bought for me, and I'm perfectly happy with it.

As for the accessories, go for the strings and the violin care kit, but I'd say skip the Softie Shoulder Pad. The care kit comes with a shoulder rest, so the extra padding won't make much difference.

Hope this helps!

thanks... I did not want to blindly buy a violin.

I feel more confident in choosing it.
