What is the deal with installing the new "ring-around-the-rosy- lights?! Are they still going to be adding them?? or have they?? I just havent heard anything about it ina while.

Good question Kenny. No one mentioned them when going to select-a-seat recently so I presume they aren't in progress. Presumably they don't take too long to install - an arena doesn't have too much downtime available.
Probably a good question for a ticket rep (alas, they haven't assigned me my new one yet.)

According to some friends in low places, there are several construction projects in the works between American Idol and September--and the wraparound board is #1 on that list.

I asked my rep and he said:
They are actually working on the lights (technically called a "ribbon
board") as we speak. They started working on it last Wednesday and it is
supposedly a month long process. I don't know if that is construction time,
which means it should be done by opening night, or if it is real people
time, which means it will be done by the first preseason game.
That is all I know about the ribbon board, hopefully I didn't bore you.

Thanks for the update Shell (and your rep cracked me up, lol).
Mona, if it's like the one in Atlanta (for example), it's basically like a color version of the "black and white" panel on the Jumbotron and it will encircle the arena.
In Atlanta they did all sorts of things on it, they displayed other scores, they displayed game stats, put all sorts of crowd encouraging stuff on it, Thrasher logos, etc. And it had LOTS of ads. I'm sure I will get used to it, but when sometimes the color scheme would switch quite abruptly during play - like from a UPS brown ad to a bright pink something it distracted me.
I still think it will be cool. :D

I'm sure CanesVision will do a good job with the light strip. It will be like a new toy for those guys. I can imagine some of the things they could use it to enhance the game presentation:
* make the lights spin around to give the appearance that the ice is in the middle of a hurricane
* use the light strip to add a lightening effect while the lights are out during pregame.
Hopefully, it won't get annoying.

no. that can't be where they're putting it. that's gotta just be a trick of the camera angle (light reflecting on a shiny surface).
those "ribbon lights" or whatever you want to call them, are usually between the 2nd and 3rd levels.. up high, where people can acutally see them.
having them 6 rows off the glass would be a MONSTROUS waste of several million dollars, and an unbelievable distraction to the people sitting right there, and the players who are only 14 feet away from it.

I thought they just had the pieces laid out like that and then were going to use that crane (the one you can't really see too well right now because it is behind the Jumbotron....was more visible earlier) to install them on the wall between the 2nd and 3rd levels. There isn't enough room to work on it from the 2nd level is there?

Here is where they are at the Pepsi Center in Colorado.. and yes, they usually display ads when not swooshing color around..

The white stripe you see six rows off the glass is a little concrete wall. The seats behind the wall are permanent (bolted to the concrete). The seats in front of the wall are on bleacher sections (they're removable).

I think that the white that is showing about 4-6 rows up is the dividing walls that have always been there. Maybe they were just painted and that's why they are so prevelant in the cam shots.

This will make the RBCC electric. I can't wait to see it!
I just don't see how "interactive games" can be played on a ribbon screen...

From ch.com..
SIGNAGE CREATES BUZZ
As installation continues, one thing just about everyone at RBC Center from CanesVision to Marketing can agree on is that the new Daktronics ProAd 360-degree LED fascia board -- or ribbon board -- currently being installed above the arena's lower bowl is going to be "awesome." That was the word most often used to describe the nearly 1,000 feet of technology being anchored to the facade of the second deck this week
Woo hoo!! Can't wait to see it! :spin:

I went to a Caps-Penguins game at MCI Center two Christmases ago. They have similar signs there. The first thing that bothered me about them was the colors. They weren't your usual red, yellow, etc. They seemed more of a neon/pastel kinda thing. Being Christmas, red and green was used a lot and it wasn't a good red and green. All I remember is this pale electric blue color that would advertise upcoming games.
On a positive note, the only advertising was for the Caps (upcoming games, etc). They didn't have any 'interactive' games with it, but did post stats every so often.
We'll see. If nothing else, it will fire up the Caniacs more.

yep, CanesVision has to be good with this... I have seen some that are awesome and really do get you into it even more.. and I have seen some that use lots of sharp non-matching colors swirling until you want to get sick.
