I have to admit that Def Leppard looks better in HD than I expected them too. Of course my expectations were pretty low even though I am a fan.

Sadly, I was underwhelmed by the performance. Good to see they still have their one-armed drummer.

So, DMac rides the Cup onstage strapped on the back of his bike, and he and Kyle Quincy unstrap it and hoist it. Then they give it to the lead singer for Def Leppard (Joe Elliott? I think) then he hoists it and sets it down on its stand UPSIDE DOWN.

LTD, the Cup arrived on Stage via a Harley- "upright" Elliot takes the Cup off the Harley and sets it down, UPSIDE DOWN. OMFG. and then he says into his mic, "oh well it's upside down". They never put the camera back on it, I'm sure the Cup Keeper was not amused. Oh, and LTD, rewind your DVR/TiVo- you'll see it all..:)

Dude, you saw it come out one way, why in the hell would you change it when you moved it to that little staging area?

The whole Faceoff Rocks thing was dumb, and lol puck_it, I said to Mr. Socal that the hostess/announcer gal, looked not real. :lol:

But seriously, I thought the whole thing showed how bush league the NHL can appear.

1. Choose a band that is sort of middle of the road in terms of perceived "greatness" ---some like them, some hate them, lots don't care.

2. Choose a band from England, rather than one from Canada or the US - What about Nickelback or Rush (another older band, but a better fit, IMO)--unless of course (as I posted on another board), you want to get ABBA back together to support the Swedish contigent in Detroit.

3. Let a lead singer who has no understanding of the Cup look like an idiot and put it on the table upside down and laugh about it (I did see "the Cup Guy" running across the stage with a frown to turn it right side up).

4. Put a plastic face as hostess that was meaningless. I mean, you have lots of celebs that love hockey...why not grab Elisha Culbert away from Dion for a day to be the hostess.

I guess the brass at NHL HQ just want to give people another reason to ridicule them.

def leppard...laughable...I know that the NHL is trying to make their own kick off the level of the NFL, but they could have done alot better than def leppard...didnt def leppard play on a flatbed at a walmart grand opening in fuquay a few years ago...

I am no fan of nickleback, but that would have been better...or a popular canadian band...the tragically hip...

most disappointing thing is we will have to hear that Come On song the rest of the damn season...

Although I'll admit I didn't see the whole "Faceoff Rocks," the parts I saw were simply horrible. Alanis and Def Leppard? Mind you, I don't mind either of them on their own (I was halfway expecting to see Dave Coulier there in his Red Wings Jersey...), but I'd think the NHL could do better. Granted, it could have been worse, and the NHL could have easily dug into the depths of the Disney Music vault and forced us to watch a Hannah Montana/Jonas Brothers Faceoff Rocks music event :help:

I heard one of the guys interviewed on XM and they talked about that song. Apparently it's become an arena rock staple already? (I haven't heard it...that I know of). They talked about wanting to write a song that became as standard as Gary Glitter's Rock and Roll Part 2. I couldn't tell if this was being PUSHED as a new arena standard or if it really had become one on its own.

I think the fact that he said "Hey, we're soccer boys. What do we know?" was basically saying "Thanks for the check, and I still don't care about your sport."

Never really did like Def Leppard. Now I have a reason to dislike them. Kinda like how I dislike Tiger Woods for "Heh.. I don't think anyone really watches hockey anymore."
