View Full Version : The LGC.com Ticket Exchange

I've added a new feature on the main site called the Ticket Exchange. Not to be confused with the forum here...

Anyway, under Caniac Central, you'll find a link for it. Directly, it's located here: http://www.letsgocanes.com/tickets.php

Anyone can view the tickets that are listed (None at the moment), but you must be logged in to contact the seller via PM, or to add tickets for sale. Also, if you have listed any tickets for sale, you will see a checkbox next to your listings for any that have sold or otherwise become unavailable.

Right now it doesn't allow for any tickets to be broken up. IE, if you enter you have tickets for sale in 328, Row G, 1-4, you can't break it up to sell 2 to Joe Blow and 2 to Jim Bob. If you want to split them, list them as splits, otherwise you may get PM's from folks wanting to buy all 4 when you've sold 2 of them and really only have 2 left.

In the future I'll add the ability to update the listing to reflect what's left.

It seems to work pretty well, but as usual there will probably be a bug or two. Please let me know if you run into any.

Thanks!

Caniac

Great feature, thanks a lot and I will certainly be posting! One question - do you intend the parking checkbox to mean, "Yes, I have a parking pass available for sale," or, "Yes, I have included the parking pass in my asking price"? Or would the real question be, "Why is Shattered such a nitpicky PITA???" Inquiring minds...

puck_it

i imagine that you have one and it's included in asking price... it's not like a potential buyer cant pm you and make a different offer, ie "I'll give you 140 instead of 147 i dont need the parking pass"

Caniac
10-14-2008, 07:49 PM
It can be discussed via PM. I just intended it to mean that there is a parking pass available for purchase. Either lumped in or separately.

If you post tickets and want to change the asking price, is that allowed? and how do you do it? Thanks..

It would be nice if the entries could be in game-date order. That way, if someone is looking for a specific date, they could easily see if it's available--rather than having to read the entire page.

PM me what you want it changed to, for now.

I'll have it where you can sort by date or price soon.

I like it.
Not sure how it looks on a full screen monitor, but on my laptop it's pretty wide. One way to maybe drop a column if you wanted, was if you could set the username itself as a PMto: link. /shrug

Caniac

Yep, could do that. It is pretty wide, 1000 px or so.

Caniac

It's sorting by date now. This weekend sometime I'll set it where you can select to sort by date or by price.

I'll also be shortening the width as much as possible.

I saw that puck_it asked that we use the new tool (which is AWESOME) instead of the forum for it, but I don't see where I beg and plead for tickets to be placed on sale anymore. ;] Also, a more concrete feature request: RSS and/or e-mail alerts when tickets are posted!

Is there any way to make an obvious link or button on your home page?

You have to click on "Caniac Central" to get a drop-down list that'll give you a choice of the Ticket Exchange.

If you had never visited lgc before, you might not necessarily find it.

a link from the forum up on the header area might be good, too. maybe remove "members list" or something.

Here's a question regarding reselling of tickets, and I'm curious what everyone's response is...

Does the $3 over charge apply to the "gate price" or "face price" of a ticket? If you read the law governing it, it states "face", which is certainly less than gate for most season ticket holders. So having said that, would someone selling their extra season tickets for less than gate price, but more than $3 over their face, be essentially scalping their tickets?

I know some people are selling their extras based off of gate value, and turning a few bucks as a result. Just don't want to see the lawman (or taxman) coming after someone if that is indeed the case...

Canesluver
10-20-2008, 12:53 PM
The gate price is what is printed on our season tickets--not the price we actually pay.

puck_it
10-20-2008, 01:12 PM
in previous seasons, the face value that was printed on the STH tickets was the STH price. this was to discourage scalpers from getting season tickets and selling them at a price higher lower than gate, but significantly higher than $3 over face (illegal, but lets face it, it happens).

This season, STH tickets have the gate price printed. The law regards FACE VALUE. that is, what ever is printed on your ticket. you could have paid $1 for it and if it said $100 on the face, you're allowed to sell it for $103.

In the past, NCSU tickets had no face value on them, allowing ticket holders to sell for whatever they liked. Student tickets had $0.00 on the face making it illegal to sell for more than $3 (never mind the university's ticket privilege suspensions)

In short, you can sell them for $3 over face value and turn a profit if you'd like. or you could not be a tool and sell them for what you paid and break even.

Yeah, regardless of what's legal and not... the simplist thing to do is to not pay gate price for someone's season ticket seats. If you're going to pay gate price, just do it at the box office. People selling their seats from their plans shouldn't be trying to make money off of people here.... though that's jmo.

I'll reopen the forum as a "beg for tickets" space tonight. I may end up doing something similar to the new ticket exchange as a "Tickets Wanted" section type deal.

Already in the works, just haven't had time yet. Hopefully tonight.

Gonna do that too. Although I may end up with a second row of links at the top if it's getting too crowded.

As far as the face value vs. gate value and the $3 thing... I'm hoping the site will do some self policing on that stuff. I'm not trying to get involved or to overthink the legalities and ethics on that.

My sentiments, too. When I post here, all I ever ask for is my STH price. :)

CL - remember recently when I mentioned I ran into a 'coworker' of yours that bought my extra Game 1 tickets to the SCF? It was funny because we were talking to someone else (who knew both of us and was wondering how we knew each other) and he made the comment like "I'll never forget her because she sold me tickets so I could take my son to the SCF.....and she even charged me face value!". I kind of laughed and then thought......it never occured to me not to.

I'm in full agreement with both of you. But, I have plenty of people (even some on here) that have offered a discount off of gate, not face value for their full season tickets (and they still turn a profit).

I've also seen folks sell their free giveaways. But that's another topic for another day. And I generally think we're pretty good about self-policing that kind of stuff, in our own special way. ;)

As a regular member/poster, I am glad to hear that you're reopening the forum. I was kinda bummed to think it wouldn't be availlable anymore. Typically I wouldn't go to the Ticket Exchange link unless I have a specific buy/sell need, but I do read all the posts, and sometimes that sparks a thought or action that would have otherwise slipped by. Plus I like to watch Caveman grovel. So thanks for the forum plus the new feature.

No. *I* sold him those tickets. I had extras. Nevermind. Uninteresting story.

(but we met at lunch on the day of Game 1 outside the box office. I remember it was a beautiful day and while i was waiting for you and AB, I met the first 2 EDM fans of that series....who were awesome and very handsome....and told me that everyone they met told them how nice they were in comparision to the BUF fans.)

Put a banner up for the ticket exchange on the front page. It's one of 3 that'll rotate on the right side. It's weighted higher than the other 2, so it should show more often. I'll add one to the forum pages as well soon.

I also reopened the forum for tickets but renamed it The Ticket Booth. You can make requests for tickets there, but tickets for sale should obviously be posted in the new Ticket Exchange.

More to come.

How does the listing get removed? By the seller or you Admin Guys? Or after the game date? That's one thing I hate about Craigslist is that the sellers won't remove the listing after they have been sold. It really clogs up the works. Just asking!

SoCalcaniac

parkwood- the poster can remove it- at least I could when I sold 4 sets last week. There's a box when you go on that says "Sold"? and you check it, and it's gone.

I need to set it so that it won't show tickets for past dates, so if someone forgets to remove it, it still won't be shown. I'll get that sometime this week hopefully.

Canesluver

Yeah -- I don't like that, either.

There's got to be a way to make the listings be in date-order, isn't there?

Caniac
11-05-2008, 01:53 PM
For some reason it's showing the 2009 stuff first. The dates are correct by month.

I'll get to it sometime, hopefully tonight.

It is in order, or at least it was until the 2009 listings were added...

It might be nice also to have the expired tickets removed, if it can be figured out. Reminder to person to remove?
