I'm a little let down. I really felt they would be playing with a bit more intensity considering the standings here.

Three more against Florida. We better see some more action out of them.

Frick the shootout. Hopes are not high.

I bet JR's running to the phones to start making deals for those UFAs.

When every loss is a dagger, it's time to prepare for next season.

Sad thing is I was more ready for next season in January than now. These little hope against hope underdog runs really screw with your head. Time to get back to reality.

Wonder what the market is like for Jokinen? I would move him if I could.

Unfortunately i think Jokinen is one of those players who, though good times or bad times, has always been worth more to the Hurricanes than anyone else - and the way he's looking right now, i honestly doubt we'd get more than anyone else's trash for him. Hate to say it, but i actually half wonder if anyone would even pick him up on waivers.

Tlusty gets cross checked in the goal and then a punch in the mouth...and nothing. Staal and Gundy have a group hug and draw matching roughing penalties. Jeesh.

I'm not blaming it on the zebras. The Canes need to find a way to score 3 goals. The team looks so much better under Muller, but still has some of the same deficiencies.

Murphy was good again. Muller needs to keep him in goal until he throws up a stinker, even if Ward comes back. Murphy has earned it.

Well, I hit the reset button when they hired Muller and said I'd be patient through whatever they did the rest of this season because we knew the team stunk and there was a lot of work to do. A stretch of good play and a lot of home wins hasn't changed my mind about that. Tonight was an illustration of that. Mr SHC was apparently drinking the playoff possibilities Kool-Aid, though, because he is ill as a hornet after that.

Beauty of a pass from Staal to Faulk and what a hard-working shift by Skinner to set up Jokinen on that second goal. Nice work. Gotta tighten up some, though, if we expect to hold onto that lead. We were probably lucky to ever have the lead, to be honest.

Hard to complain too much but, god I hate losing in a shootout.

John F had good things to say about the game, but I thought it was lacking intensity overall, but especially at the end.

I've had several proud moments as a fan -- being part of the standing ovation for the last home games in the '01 and '02 playoffs, to name two -- but I think tonight might have been my proudest moment of the team. When the starting line-up stayed in line, waiting for the starter of the game (and was I the only one who had to snort back a sob when he came out?) to leave the ice, I said out loud, "That's awesome, guys." I wish I'd gotten a picture of it.

We enjoyed that very much as well. Excellent military recognition overall.

I'd also note that I found it very interesting that any shouted words during the anthem were very close to completely absent tonight. If it's OK to do, shouldn't it be OK to do even when the military are in the house? Just made me wonder.

I'm in 127 and if anything was shouted, it didn't make it to my ears -- not even a "red."

I believe it's military/flag protocol. I noticed it earlier this season when there was a military color guard. Canes stood in place until they left the ice.

Extremely touching pregame.

(btw, I'm not sure who decided that Hoyle needs to direct the fans to stand for an ovation. The RBC crowds have always been good about that without instruction. To me it takes away from the moment.)

You weren't the only one, simply because he was honored as well by Dept. Of Justice where my hub works, and his closest friend is hubby's coworker & he's ironically from the same area where my hub grew up. I knew in advance & still just about lost it. canes did a GREAT job for Military Appreciation. Was very impressed.

The game: Can we now let the idea of playoffs finally go? This was the so called "big chance" and it was squandered IMO. Our goalie let them get their bearing & kept em in it and still, we blow it. A growing pain? I guess. But that game should have been won.

I won't comment on the shootout, but I will say Brad Watson is a complete jackass. If Versteeg (who is one of my favorite, favorite players) drops his frickin' gloves, it's unsportmanlike dude, call it. Call the game both ways. We had stuff that should have been called and true to his useless self, he's daydreaming or some sh@*. The officiating didn't kill us tonight we did that ourselves, but good grief.

Dagger...

Ah, good point -- could've been for the flags, rather than the starter. But for whichever respectful reason, glad our guys did it!

I admit, I was half drinking the kool-aid. The only way to do it is win the division which I think could have been doable considering all the games we have left with the SE. I read somewhere how the Canes have notched more points, 22 or 23, since January other any other SE team, so I thought there could be hope if we win those in regualtion. So needelss to say as soon as that game went to OT, my kool-aid ran out

We play these guys on Game 82 and I'd love nothing more than to knock their asses out of the playoffs (even if that allows the Jets to get in)

Actually-- they were staying in-place until the color guard left. That's proper protoctol, of which I'm hugely impressed that they knew to do.

I would have thought it was the color guard as well. But, I had to wonder because that end of the ice is where I sit and their movement corresponded with the exit of the starter...the color guard wasn't out the door yet. At the door, but not out it.

No matter who it was, that was awesome.

Peters sounds devastated in his post-game from last night. Sucks SO BAD that that came down to the shoot out.

The(y) starters have stayed out there before/previous to Military night when the Color Guard has been part of the pre-anthem. It's actually happened a couple times in this season, I kinda wondered about it before, (the players staying instead of skating off) I'm just glad they waited. I remember the Rangers staying on ice one game as well.

Heard that Peters audio too, he really seemed to be kicking himself out loud, I felt bad for him.

Well, next up the Preds. That'll be a joy.

Unfortunately, we missed the beginning of the game, but from what I can tell, it was very moving. My wife and I went and saw "Acts of Valor" last night. It was an interesting concept - to use actualy active duty SEALS in the movie. It made for some obvious subpar acting, but that wasn't the point. Even my wife teared up saying, "It warms and breaks my heart to know that there are men out there that put their lives on the line to protect us. Every one of those men is worth 1,000 cowards that would blow up children or harm innocent people in the name of God."
