My comment is about Carolina's Picard - Yahoo lists him as being signed yesterday, while tsn says nothing. Nor does website not to be named. 'Course i totally missed earlier mentions of other sites overlooking it as well.

Phoenix' Picard is a done deal all around.

Right. We think Yahoo just screwed up and updated both Picards (or has really bad code and it automatically updated both as re-signing, referential integrity yo!).

I think we'd know by now if the Canes signed anyone.

I was excited about the Picard news because I thought it must mean a Babs trade announcement was forthcoming.

I accept full blame for this misunderstanding. In my pathetic attempt to break a minor news story, I rushed a fact I did not check well enough.

Journalist, I am not.

LOL @ "The Bike Staal"

Staal Brothers go environmental

Quote:
How can one pack even more excitement into nine days of baseball at the 2010 World Junior Baseball Championship? Getting all four Staal brothers on the premises is a good start.

NHL stars Eric, Jordan, Marc and Jared were at Port Arthur Stadium on Tuesday morning adding their support to a tournament that has already been an enormous success. The Thunder Bay natives visited in support of an environmentally friendly initiative developed by tournament organizers, in an attempt to get patrons to visit the ballpark on their bicycles while leaving their cars at home.

“It’s a great concept us being pretty active people and it’s a great opportunity for people to get outside and enjoy the weather we’ve had this summer and support this event,” Carolina Hurricanes centre Eric Staal told the Sports Lifestyle Network.

By turning an off-leash dog park beyond the outfield fence into “The Bike Staal”, fans have a spot to park their bicycles free of charge, while soaking in the atmosphere at the stadium.

The four brothers rode into the designated parking area on four identical mountain bikes, eventually stopping to lift their wheels into a bike rack before meeting with the media.

Helping people achieve a healthy lifestyle while saving the environment is what the promotional event was all about and Jordan Staal was more than happy to be involved.

“It’s always good to get people out and about, getting into physical activity. Obviously with our line of work we do a lot of it and it’s enjoyable. It’s always nice to be in good shape and feel good about yourself and obviously this event right here is big for going green.” said the Pittsburgh Penguins forward.

Executive director of the tournament organizing committee Warren Philp said he was mindful of helping reduce the environmental impact the nine-day event would have on the Thunder Bay area. Bringing the Staal brothers in was the perfect way to get people interested, while playing up their already legendary status in the community.

A few chuckles were shared among the group when Eric was asked why Marc seemed to lag behind during their short bicycle stint around the grounds.

“We just came from a workout and I think he pushed himself a little too hard,” said Eric.

Ironically, when it comes to saving the environment and preaching an active lifestyle, one can never push hard enough.

I read that story yesterday but did not see a photo.

Is it my bad eyes and I cannot see what they are posing on either side of? It looks like a blank sign.

Just an observation, but Jared looks like spent more time in the pub than the gym. He looks more Seth Rogan than Staal like.

I swear there was somebody that looked just like Jared at the Rascal Flats concert a few weeks ago. He was sitting in front of us about 20 feet at one of the railed-in tables, in the mid section of under the shelter. The guy was with several other young people, mostly female, and he seemed to almost be there against his will, sat and texted or something on his phone virtually the entire time. Then beside them, there was 3 or 4 women, with two older guys and a young guy that resembled Larose an awful lot. The two guys were wearing the nice Canes logoed polo style shirts, and were also not at all interested in the concert. The Larose look a like was wearing a black tee shirt of some kind, and a black canes hat. He was funny, because the girl he seemed to be attached too was very into the show, and that made him interested some of the time

Seeing all this separately I wouldn't have given it a second look, but seeing it all side by side in a some what tony setting sure made me give them a hard look trying to see if it was really them.

I thought the EXACT same thing. Funny part if we can call it "funny" is that he was just here what 3 weeks or so ago? I don't recall him looking like that at Rookie Camp. When you line him up with his bros- it's clear, there is work to do.

I recall collectively we determined Youngest Staal would be a prOject. I stand in that corner firmly.

I thought the single, male Caniacs (or Wolfpack members) might appreciate this news: Why women are attracted to a man dressed in red. (Based on one of the pictures used in the study, though, the news is not so great for Tar Heel men.)

Hey, it's the off-season. News is slow.

We should have all gotten or be getting an email reminder, but just in case ... 12-gamers, don't forget that our plan/section selection forms are due this Friday.

On a different note...I got my NHL Center Ice renewal letter yesterday and it said the price for Center Ice this year was going to be over $170 (it was 171 and some change I think)!! Come on NHL, you are killing me over here!

Translating it to Brazilian currency and this is nearly half of one month's salary for me. Addng the traditional Brazilian taxes and the cost skyrockets like Pavel Bure in a breakaway

I gave up CI a few seasons ago. I'm surviving.

It just became too much of a time waster for me when I should be doing other things (parenting, housekeeping, reading...watching Survivor. ). With the NHL Net picking up HNIC on Saturdays, that helps.

I do miss seeing the non-FSN games, but I realized that I have conflicts that prevent me from watching even all of the FSN games, so what's another 15 or whatever.

The extra 170 bucks isn't bad either.

Some of us 'Canes fans have no choice but to get CI .

I'm very tempted to get the online version this year though.

^He coached my nephew last year for the Storm. Well he wasn't his official coach, since Strand coached Team Red and he was on Team White, but their practices were combined and Strand headed those.

He's very good with the kids and my nephew likes him alot. I think he's learned so much from him just in this past year.

Strand seems like a really good guy. I see him at these events and things that the Canes do, and he seems so low key but one of those guys that really wants to help in any way he can. It's great he's such a big piece of the Youth Hockey scene here too.

I was listening to XM204 this morning - they're kind of all over the place with programming since we're now in the late summer and they're all vacationing or cottaging and all that fun stuff they do in Canada, but Shawn Lavigne, and Jamie Shalley attended Erik Cole's Dream Big Golf Classic this weekend- Forslund was the emcee again, LaRose, Corvo and even Jesse Boulerice was there for the thing.

So a few tid bits from the clips they played (Cole, Forslund both interviewed at length)

- #26 gave a shout out to O2 Fitness where he and Corvo are working out; "anyone who works out at O2 can see me and Corvo killing each other"

- The mood among the Canes players at the event, is "hungry" and "ready to go" Cole said repeatedly how excited he is about "all of the young guys" and getting a chance redeem themselves from last year.

-Cole also revealed he spoke with the guy that runs his tourney; that they're talking about doing something similar in Raleigh- "I'm not sure how it will be received". But would love to do it. hmmmmm.

- Shawn Lavigne shared that during the memorobilia live auction somehow Joe Corvo's shirt was removed, (he was showing how hard he has been working) and a lady in the crowd shouted out "I'll give you $3,000 to leave your shirt off" ......I'm thinking this will make Canesluver smile.

- Consensus is that Chad LaRose is a cut up. His first time at the tourney so Lavigne and Shalley didn't really "know" how he is, lol. Clearly they know him now.

- Forslund as usual, was the Canes ambassador, talked about the ups downs, all that stuff, and the excitement with the ASG, etc. and that this is a 'big year' for the org.

The show repeats 2 more times I believe- all the Cole Tourney stuff is in the 2nd hour; so you can catch the re-wind in the 10-11am (eastern) time zone.

Here's the audio replay, courtesy ch.com/twitter:

Quote:
@MikeSundheim Erik Cole w/ XM Home Ice recapping his Dream Big Golf Tourney in Oswego: Part I: http://carhur.com/bcd Part II: http://carhur.com/bce
First clip is mainly the lead-in by the XM crew and Erik talking about the history and the logistics of the tournament and events and community aspects in Oswego.

Second clip talks about the potential of bringing the Dream Big events to Raleigh and more about his prep for the upcoming season and his teammates.

Enjoyed the comments on his relationship with the former and current captain(s). And I hope he's right about who's due for a big season.

Unless I missed it, these clips don't mention shirtless Joe.

I played around with the URLs and found the Lavigne/Shalley discussion, I think from SoCal's post, that's where the comments about Corvo are:

http://www.xmhomeice.com/audio/HTM%2...0of%202%20.mp3

And for what it's worth, here's the directory of all their audio.

Part 2 of the links I posted has the comments about Rosey (and Corvo's shirtlessness). Shawn seems to be quite "impressed" with how much of a talker and how funny Rosey is. He said his nickname should be "Beaker" from the Muppets because that's what he reminded him of when he got going talking.

And can I just say, we must be in Bizarro Caniacland when Erik Cole is bursting with anticipation and positive vibes. I'm just not used to hearing Cole like that, lol, all sunshine, puppy dogs, and lacking in sarcasm.

Until we break our losing streak record from last year, well, I'm excited about this coming year
