Default 2013-2014 All Canes All The Time (TV Contract)

Luke reports on Twitter that starting the above season that all Canes games that are not nationally televised WILL BE on Fox Sports Carolinas.

Correct, this was Luke's next tweet

Current deal, which runs through next season, calls for 65 games to be televised. New deal brings Hurricanes in line with NHL standards.

Thanks!

Cool.

Too bad they didn't throw a bone and fill in the rest of the 12-13 games as well (on the existing contract).

I believe 65 games is a minimum. I'm sure that in past seasons they've thrown in a few extra games.

Yeah... welcome to the 21st Century, eh?

After all my snark, yes, this is great news.

Especially for all of the fans that are not in the local area, and even those locals who don't go to games. It's just good period.

IMO it helps build the brand, give us all the games and eventually some of those folks will drift to the PNC Arena.

One thing that's noted in Chip's article is that Forslund, Tripp, Chuck all need new contracts this summer. Presumably that will be a non-issue, but worth noting.

Wonder if we'll have trouble getting Johnny Sideburns to commit to all the games given he does some national work now...

Not after NBC Sports Network cut him almost completely out of the picture. With Doc Emrick giving up his full time gig with the Devils, they've got their front line guy. I don't think Forslund would leave to get the scraps after Doc gets his games.

Also Emrick has even cut down his workload with NBC - he was on XM a while back and talked about "getting older" and needing to balance his schedule & the travel; and more games are going to Dave Strader, who makes me feel like I'm watching baseball with that voice. I think it's a bummer that Forslund's workload is less on NBCSN hopefully he'll get some work in the playoffs. Is Strader still PHX's guy? When I do watch PHX on CI, I am almost always watching the opponents feed, so I forgot if he left PHX and is now NBC only.

I noticed in today's paper, Rutherford said "we'll get those done, no problem" so the commitment is obviously there, which is good for us. He also brought up in that piece; he's going after a top line winger to play with #12:

“We feel we're in position to make that move now, which would give us the opportunity to move up in the pecking order.”

so there ya go.

Glad he's realizing that. I love him but, he is starting to make a lot of mistakes in broadcasts that he never used to.

He left PHX and is NBC only. Another reason why Forslund wouldn't leave for that gig...they already have a #1 and #2 guy.
