There's not anything on the website, but Michael Smith tweeted that they would take place today and Canesvision would be posting them. Also suggested that ice_chip and Mike Maniscalco would be tweeting from them.
I've got a busy day, so not sure I can view as they arrive, so if anyone wants to post interesting snippets/quotes, that would be cool. (Though really....what is left unsaid at this point?) edit: Just reviewed Smith's tweet and it says Exit Interviews from 11am -Noon with JR and Muller to address media following. So maybe there won't be any media player interviews after all? If not, then nevermind. |

I imagine we'll see something (player wise) today right?
I don't know that there is much to say that hasn't already been said, But would like to hear from the players one last time before they all scatter. |

Sundheim tweeted a "Season notes" PDF for the media that is kind of interesting for those who like their stats.
First bit of news from Exit interviews: Quote:

From what I understand, all players are still going to be available for interview today (going on as we speak), and I know several media sources intend to have audio/video/articles, etc. up afterwards, it just won't be a formal sit-down as in years past with one media session per player, more of a round robin so we may get different sets of interviews versus the same one from all sources.

^Ah, ok. That would explain the 1 hour window thing.
Was a little surprised that Skinner is going to WC's again. Figured he'd finally take a break, but who am I to say. ![]() |

I'm kinda glad #12 isn't going- he's drained himself emotionally and probably physically with this second half, hopefully that doesn't give him a black mark with Team Canada. But he's gone every time he's been asked so hopefully....
Skinner and Cam, yeah, ok. Since 53 missed some games, maybe he feels like he wants to keep playing. Cam could use a rest too, but he seems to always feel like he can play and play.... |

Several sources are tweeting from the press conference, I'm not normally a bit re-tweeter but I am re-posting a number of them on my personal twitter feed (most without editorial comment from me) for folks interested in seeing the discussion before the official press conference media is posted.
Biggest news so far is the word that Brind'Amour will be a full-time assistant coach next season. Canes also tweeting that video with both players and JR/Muller will be available online later today. |

I'm glad to hear that Brind 'Amour is going to be handling FT assistant coaching duties next season. Best news out of the press conference so far.
I guess the video of the presser will be a little more informative at this point. |

So does that mean there will now be 4 behind the bench....again?

I'll confess to not watching the opposing benches as close as i could, but is the '4 coaches on the bench' done often these days? At one point in time i did pay a little more attention, and i don't remember ever seeing it.

Perhaps even as a "FT" assistant, someone will still be sequestered to the Press Box duty? |

So the Blackhawks do it intermittently; they'll have 4 on the bench then drop back to 3. Sharks did it last year, I think they went eye in the sky mid season this year.
Not 'super common'. I'm in favor of seeing it. The scramble to be first (Chip) yielded little in twitterland IMO. Seeing tweets from other media with more insight after all the talking has been done, was well done. |

If there is an odd man out or someone leaving, I suspect it may be MacLean. He's reportedly building a house in NJ and his wife and children stayed behind when he took the assistant gig here. I had a brief conversation with him and Brind'Amour at Casino Night. He said that his boys were well established in schools and hockey- one in middle school and the other in high school. He indicated that the younger one was a bit too young for boarding school and they didn't want to disrupt them by relocating to NC. That's when Brind'Amour stepped up and told MacLean that the kids could play hockey here and the triangle had leagues/teams, the influence of a professional team and their players. Brind'Amour said "I'm trying to convince him to stay here." Thus, I came away with the thought that MacLean was not staying for the long haul, but I amy be wrong.

Thanks for that brief OTB--- I for one, hope MacLean stays on the staff. Next to Coach's hiring, he's been a real bonus in this. Got the raw of all raw deals in NJ and he's been an asset to this team/org.

I appreciated the real-time updates as well. Kinda why I use the twitter.
I haven't had a chance to listen to the audio posted by the Canes, but from reports from others who have listened, it sounds as though Muller is going to the WCs as well as a coach for Team Canada. |

Staal, on the other hand, is pretty much already establish when it comes to Team Canada. He's a consistant 70 point guy and is already on their radar. Quote:
ETA: Just saw LTD's post. Awesome for Muller if he's the coach. |

Oh - I hadn't read that either. Good for him!
And just to followup on Chip. I feel like sometimes I represent the more casual fan these days. I've got a number of reasons why, but I'm definitely not on top of the Canes (or the league) like I was in years past. I don't subscribe to Center Ice or XM Radio. I don't DVR games that I can't watch (unless we just need to start it a little late because we have a small conflict) and don't DVR games I attend -- ALL things I used to do. And I'm not complaining. Having said all that. I know there are times that I've read a sarcastic tweet from Chip about the progress of a game and people have taken issue with it, but meanwhile, if I'm sitting at a HS soccer game and just checking the score/twitter it does give me a "sense" of the game that goes beyond the straight facts. Clearly Michael Smith isn't going to be snarky about his employer but reading things Chip (or friends I know at the game that tweet) give me a feeling about things when twitter (and a box score) is the only connection I have to a game -- a position some people would never be in. ![]() NOW -- if I wasn't in the category I describe above, and had first hand access to things that go on with the team (practices, live games, National Media commentary) I might feel he's too *something* as compared. edit: having said all that, I'm certain that I have ragged on innumerable people for being ignorant or late to the party or whatever and now I see that for some fans, that's good enough (except Home Ice's Mike Ross - he's horrible all the time). ![]() Last edited by nccanes : 04-09-2012 at 02:13 PM. |

E, points well taken on the casual fan front. I'll break down and admit he's useful for that. As a person/fan on the other side of the spectrum--- e.g. follows the team/NHL very closely, for me, he's a means to an end.
![]() My original post was was complimenting Canes Country so I should have mentioned them by name - Bob, Brian or Cory or whoever tweets from @canecountry handle who waited until he left that exit interview scene and then tweeted a number of useful items, (ex: Tim Brent's comments on this area fitting his personality and the fans tailgating for hockey games, Welsh finishing up his Econ thesis, etc.) instead of a string of tweets about who or who isn't going to the Worlds, which in the scheme of things,(and in my opinion only) isn't on my priority list for what our players will be doing off season. I'll watch /TiVo games, but it's not an end all for me. On Coach Kirk... Very happy for him. Was glad to hear that on the video. KF- yeah on Cam/Team Canada Olympics- Agreed. I recall Elliotte Friedman had a piece in his blog about Cam being "in the mix" on Canada's "short list" for Sochi. With that overrated Luongo is being talked about but apparently Fleury and Price more in favor with TC- and Cam's apparently turned heads too. I really think Cam should get a shot to go. He would have if not for that horrible injury in 2010.... Pierre LeBrun had a piece on it too probably a month ago...Hoping he does well. |

As managing editor, Bob is the one who posts commentary under the Canes Country twitter ID, the rest of us on the staff link through that account only when we publish articles. I'll make sure to let him know how much you appreciate his summaries today, since we sometimes tease him that he's not active enough on the twitter.
(I realized who you referring to in your original but thanks for acknowledging my colleagues )And HNIC just tweeted that Kirk Muller will join their team for the playoffs broadcast. |
