Canes Sign Brian Dumoulin

Signs an entry level deal, 3 years/$2.225, $270K signing bonus. He'll play for Charlotte on Friday on an ATO and will be eligible for the playoffs if they make it.

Was SOOOO glad to see the signing!

VERY glad to see that Pete Dawg pitched a shutout and Checkers won last night 3-0 vs Rockford. So at least Dumoulin will join the team with much needed win on their side.

I remember seeing him at rookie camp about 3 years ago and was very impressed. He's a smooth skater.

What's the reason that Dumoulin can join the Checkers, but Welsh couldn't? Is it the "ATO" (amateur tryout) part?

yep and maybe age.

From my understanding, it's because of him playing in that 1 game with the Canes. You have a limit to the number of people you can "assign" to the AHL and we'd already hit that limit (or something like that).

I presume all parties really wanted him to get a game in under Muller and it sounds like Welsh wanted to finish out his semester. Perhaps that was part of the carrot that helped land him.

you are right, I forgot about that. we can only send 4 and 4 have gone.
