Well that was a stinker

I didn't think we played THAT BADLY until the 3rd period of the Blackhawks game. It definitely showed that we have to have Cam steal wins for us a lot of the time, because a decent goalie in Peters can't do it with what's in front of him. Cam basically stands on his head for us night in and night out. The problem there is running him into the ground prior to a possible playoff appearance.

As far as any commentary on the game itself, I just don't have much to say. I thought they would have been amped up after the win over the Slugs and they came out there and laid that egg.

And of course the Slugs, Rangers and Leafs have all won since then and we find ourselves in 9th place for the moment. We're going to have to take our own destiny here because asking other teams to beat the teams they should beat and helping us get in is obviously not going to work.

Hope that ride back up I-95 is pleasant

It's sweet to win. It's more sweet to beat the Slugs. It's great to send a few busloads of slug fans back north with an L on the books, even if it was an overtime loss.

The Canes played from behind in desperation mode all night, each time answering a Buffalo goal and knotting it at two to go to overtime. Jamie McBain wanted to get it over with quickly and put one past Ryan Miller to seal the deal. Since the Rangers lost tonight, we move into sole possession of 7th place and that is a nice place to be.

Jiri Tlusty and Chad LaRose scored our goals in regulation answering Steve Montador and Brad Boyes' goals. Oddly, all the scoring in regulation was in the 2nd period.

So again, have a good time on that ride back to the dreary north, Slug fans.

Big, big win

The Canes held off the Panthers tonight 2-1 in a pretty ugly game. Cory Stillman and Eric Staal got ours and David Booth got their garbage goal. The Hurricanes looked sluggish in the 2nd and 3rd, but Cam Ward was stellar as usual and we managed to get it done. These two points are HUGE, since the Sabres beat the Rangers tonight. So now we have 69 points, the Rangers stay at 70 and the Sabres remain two points back at 67.

Thursday night is another HUGE game as we'll be playing at home against the Sabres. 4 point game. Hopefully this is the start of a streak.
