Trade Deadline Day

E-mail Print PDF

Well we'll know everything by 3pm today. Is anyone else biting their fingernails this morning? I know I am. Rumors are swirling all over the league and of course our #14 is a name being thrown around right now by Canes fans as possibly being on the block. Who do we get? JM Liles has been bantered about as a possibility for us and he'd definitely beef up our blue line, but we probably wouldn't get him for just Sammy. We've got those 2 2nd round picks to deal and some have said that would do it. I'm not too sure of that or JR would have already pulled that trigger.

Whatever happens, it's bound to be exciting!

Thanks for the 2 Points, Pens.

Well the Canes beat Pittsburgh 4-1 tonight in Cory Stillman's return. By doing so they maintained the 3 point lead over Buffalo, who also won tonight. Unfortunately the Rangers kicked the everloving crap out of the Caps, 6-0, so their 3 point lead on us stays in place.

In the bad news category, Eric Staal wen out toward the end of the second after a collision with Matt Niskanen. As usual the only word is an upper body injury, but it sure looked like a concussion... Let's hope not. He's already listed as out for tomorrow's game in Montreal.

In the win, Jay Harrison scored his 3rd of the season, Joe Corvo, Erik Cole and Jussi Jokinen also tallied. Derek Joslin also got his first point as a Hurricane.

Side note - seemed like 3/4 of the Penguins roster was out tonight, headlined by Malkin and Crosby. Matt Cooke was in the lineup though, of course.

So we got Cory Stillman back from the Panthers. Should be a good addition considering how bad we've been on the power play and how good he is on it. For this trade we sent Ryan Carter and 5th round pick to Sunrise. I think that's a good deal.

This is great news but everybody's got the idea JR's not done here. Expect something big around the trade deadline.

Sean Avery and the Rangers Tomorrow

E-mail Print PDF

So our good friend and epitome of class, Sean Avery and his Ranger cohorts are coming to town tomorrow night for a big one. This is a 4 point game, folks. With a win we will be tied with the Rangers in points. They'll have the edge in wins though. Just as important, we'll be putting some distance on Atlanta and Buffalo.

Looks like Gaborik's out with a concussion that according to the rumor mill he's been playing with for a while, with the knowledge of the team. That's not a good idea at all. I don't think I believe that they'd knowingly let that happen with all we know about concussions these days. Regardless, it should work to our advantage that he's going to be out of the lineup.

There was some line shifting going on again today at practice and Gleason was out. We don't know if he just wasn't there for some minor reason or he may be injured. I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

This should be a good one so everybody get on out to the game if you can. Should be a great day for hockey.
